Gartnergade corps (Copenhagen)as a community of believers

On the Danish page there is published a new article concerning Gartnergade corps as a community of believers, where the focus is the life within the fellowship. The other articles concerning the corps have focused on the engagement of the corps in the district with open air meetings in yards, streets and bigger squares, the extensive work among childrens and youth, contact to the peole living in the district through different arrangements and through neigbourship and fellowship at their places of work. The life of the corps through the German occupation during World War II as well as the youth fellowship’s programmea and engagement have also been described.

This new article in Danish concerns the community life of meetings, services, worship and prayer life as well as the fellowship through musical groups. It gives glimpses from the different ceremonies of the corps as dedication of children, juniorsoldeirs’s enrolments, senior solders’ covenant, weddinga, confirmations and funerals. The community celebrated all the special jubilees as for example 25 or 40 years as a soldier or local officer with festive gatherings in the corps, also private celebrations as special bithdays, silver-and golden weddings were celebrated there. The corps community  was the extended family, for most of the soldiers used all there free time in the corps. By this the corps also became a work fellowship, even though everything went on outside normal working hours.

In some weeks the last article based on Gartnergade corps will come in English as well and be theological reflections on the community life of the corps, some ecclesiological reflections on a corps that lived through many changes around it as well as within it: the conditions of the working class population of the district in living standards, education and the  move out of the ditrict as well as the influx of a different population of immigrants and students. Changes that also marked this working class corps itself.
